Preface

The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) has prepared a Floodplain Information Report
for the Yampa River subbasin of the Upper Colorado River Basin. The Board has also prepared
similar reports for three other subbasins of the Upper Colorado River Basin: the White River
(from Rio Blanco Lake downstream to the Utah stateline); the Gunnison River (from Delta,
Colorado downstream to its mouth); and the Colorado River mainstem (from Rifle, Colorado
downstream to the Utah stateline). Figure 1 on the next page shows the four stream reaches in
the upper Colorado River Basin. Each of these reports has been prepared to provide local
officials with the most current approximate floodplain information, to assist them in their local
floodplain management programs.

This Floodplain Information Report presents the results of a study for the delineation of the 50-
year and 1 DO-year floodplains on the reach of the Yampa River from Craig, Colorado downstream
to the upstream limit of Dinosaur National Monument. It is intended to assist the City of Craig
and Moffat County.

While the report has been prepared with local floodplain management needs in mind, the CWCB
is aware that this reach of the Yampa River has been designated as critical habitat for endangered
fish by the U.s. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service). The Service may choose to utilize some
of the information in this report for Endangered Species Act purposes, but the CWCB neither
endorses nor objects to such utilization. The CWCB has endorsed this report for floodplain
management purposes only.
