With continual planning, surveys, <br />and investigations, State and Federal Govern- <br />ments are cooperating on water resource develop- <br />ment projects to assure the maximum possible <br />benefits from Colorado's rivers and streams. <br />Evaluation of Colorado's land and water <br />resources shows that Western Colorado, with <br /> <br />(Left) Sailboats head across Grand Lake in the Colorado_ <br />Big Thompson Project during the annual Grand Lake <br />Yacht Club Regatta. <br /> <br /> <br />(Above) The walls of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison <br />River are ancient granite and gneiss, and in places are <br />nearly 2,000 feet high. Portions of the area are set <br />aside as a National Monument. <br /> <br /> <br />(Above) The intake structure of the 2.6 mile-long Cherry <br />Creek Dam near Denver helps regulate Rash Roods. An <br />earthfHl structure, the dam rises 140 feet above the <br />streambed and impounds 15,000 acre-feet of water. <br />
