It was determined
that one node representing their projects monthly net depletion in Colorado would be the best way to represent their
projects impacts on water resources. I received monthly depletions for the 1929.1993 wy period of record for input to
the SJBHM. I started with the most current consultation model, the SJBHM modified by Ayres Engineering for the
Jicarilla Apache Nation, which uses RW version 4.4. The Long Hollow Dam Project was modeled by creating a River
Reach labeled LongHollowProjectDepletion. The monthly depletion file was Input to the Inflow slot and the outflow slow
was linked to the AggReach, HesperusToStateline:BelowCherryCrkDivs:Retum Flow.

It was obvious that some timesteps were creating negative flows at the statellne. Since our two data sets are based on
different timasteps and period of record, is seem reasonable to adjust the depletions that caused our hydrology to
produce negative river flows. This analysis was done on the following sheet.

Model Results

The adjusted dateset was input to SJBHM and run. Post processing to detennine SJRIP Flow statistics showed that all
criteria were met except the 80% Frequency Criteria for the 2,500 cfs for 1 D-days. This model run produced 78.5%. 51
out of 65 years met the criteria instead of the required 52 out of 65 years. By comparing the previous accepted run
made for the Jicarilla's to this run, it was determined that a release was needed in 1931. This was accomplished by
decreasing the MinAvailableWater parameter from 1 ,3n ,000 at to 1,376.500 af. A new run was made and this time all
primary and secondary criteria were meet. All minimum monthly San Juan River flows were meet. See RIP Statistics
Sheet.

Comparison of the SJ8HM LaPlata River flows, diversions, retum flows and local inflows are shown for the preproject
conditions (the Jicarilla modeled results) and then for the postproject conditions (Long Hollow Project modeled results).
An interactive graph demonstrates how these modeled values compare in the Compare sheet.

Conclusion

The LaPlata River L.ong Hollow Oam Project as modeled meets the requirements of SJRIP program of contributing to
the recovery of the endangered fish.

John Simons
Civil Engineer
US Bureau of Reclamation
Durango, Colorado

May 4, 2004

LongHollowProjectModeIResults5-15-04.xls Intro 6/18/04
