Phase I has included:

.

. Developing project and related fact sheets to aid in publicizing the Assessment and the current
drought conditions persistent statewide.
. Developing and initiating a media campaign to create public and water supplier awareness of the
project.
. Obtaining and manipulating state provided databases including HydroBase from the SEO to develop
the Assessment participant list.
. Beginning the process of identifying the types and locations of Assessment participants statewide,
basin-by-basin.

The key project issues that the Board needs to be aware of includes:

1. The project team needs Board member support in publicizing the Assessment at future board
meetings (other than the CWCB) and other speaking opportunities that the Board members attend.
We have created a speakers package (attached) containing talking points and fact sheets for your
reference. We will also update the calendar of upcoming events that either Board or Board staff will
be attending through the end of the year.

2. The Assessment will be developed and tested during Phase II of the project, which will occur
between now and October. The Assessment participant list, the first task that needs to be completed
before development of the Assessment begins, has begun with the aid of HydroBase. A summary of
the data evaluated to date is as follows:

.

. There are roughly 131,000 "structures" in the state diverting, storing, augmenting and/or
otherwise using water as recorded in the SEO database.
. The structures are owned/controlled by roughly 21,000 entities.

Flood Protection · Water Project Planning and Financing. Stream and Lake Protection
Water Supply Protection.
