. .

2

f.
V .
\,,".;

flow to this section of the Yampa River are Morrison Creek, Service Creek and Green Creek; these
tributaries are all fairly minor and do not contribute significant flow to the Yampa outside of the snow
melt runoff period. The attached table summarizes the data, the modeling accuracy ranges, and the flows
that meet the R2CROSS hydraulic criteria.

.

We have also reviewed the Stagecoach Project Instream Flow Physical Habitat Study completion report
by W. J. Miller and Associates (copy attached). In this report, Miller recommends flows ranging from
40 cfs to 75 cfs for the months of June through March; for April and May Miller recommended flows
between 40 cfs and 125 c!s. Miller's recomme11dations are based upon three study sites on the Yampa
River utilizing the IFIM/PHABSIM methodology. The fish species that were used in the habitat
simulations were brown trout and rainbow trout. The R2CROSS flow recommendations are, as illustrated
by the attached summary table and flow recommendations (below). very consistent with the work
performed by Miller. ..

Based on our review of all of the data, the Division of Wildlife's R2CROSS-based flow recommendations
for the Yampa River are as follows:

Yampa River
Stagecoach Dam outlet to the Lake Catamount high water line
Winter Low Flow Season: 47.5 cfs
Summer High Flow Season: 72.5 cfs

I

To provide adequate protection to the Yampa River's fishery, we recommend that the low flow season
be September through March and the high flow season should be April through August. .

If you have questions regarding these flow recommendations, please call me at 303-291-7260.

\

Jay
PS IS III - Instream Flow Program Coordinator
Colorado Division of Wildlife

Attachments

.
