e'

HUMAN ECONOMICS-The project will provide a more efficient irrigation delivery system
for the producers. It will also ensure a reliable water supply with less maintenance costs.
The combined impact should be a more cost effective irrigation delivery system, including a
reliable late summer and fall supply.

Alt~mative llI-Single Diversion

This alternative would involve building a single diversion at the Williams Ditches diversion site.
It would combine the decrees of the Williams, Walker, and Shelton ditches. The Marshall-
Roberts and Gibraltar ditches are not included in by this alternative.

ComDonents:
The major components are: Diversion, 3,900 ft of new ditch, 15,300 ft of ditch enlargement
(capacities up to 138 cfs.) In addition to these improvements there would be a need for several
railroad and road crossings, utility crossings, and water control structures.

Costs: $1.353.000

EFFECTS:

SOIL RESOURCE-Streambank erosion and entrenchment will be reduced but to a lesser
extent than the other alternatives.

, SURFACE W A TER- Sediment loading from the project area will not be reduced to the same
. degree as with Alternative II

WETLANDS-Where ditch abandonment occurs and the wetland hydrology is disrupted, a
negative impact is expected. Other areas will receive more water as a result of combining
ditches, thus enhancing existing wetlands. Some new wetlands may be created from the
establishment of new ditches. No net negative effects are anticipated.

WATER QUANTITY-With the planned system improvements in places only a partial long-
term solution to river impairment and a reliable water source is attained, because the
Marshall Roberts and Gibraltar ditches are not included.

PLANTS/RIP ARIAN HABITAT-This alternative would have less of an impact on the
habitat, because the affected area has been scaled down the impacts would not be so long
term.

Alternate IV- Two Diversians

This alternative would include alternative III plus a diversion near the Marshall Roberts
headgate. No enlargement of the Marshall Roberts would be needed. The Gibraltar Ditch would
be extended on the north side of the river in an open earthen channel, riprapped as needed. The
Gibraltar Ditch extension would be the same as proposed in alternative II

e

4
