Recreation and Fish and Wildlife

Jackson Gulch Reservoir has a surface area of about 220
acres at total capacity. The reservoir is stocked with trout
by the Colorado Department of Natural Resources,
Division of Wildlife. There are many good camping and
picnicking sites, and hunting for the plentiful deer and
elk in the area is permitted in season. Recreation
facilities at the reservoir were developed and are
managed by the Bureau of Reclamation. Visitor days to
the area totaled about 24,000 during 1981.

PROJECT DATA

Land Areas (1981)

]rrigable area:
Supplemental irrigation service ..,........
,"umber of irrigated farms ....,'.........

Area Irrigated and Crop Value

13,746 acres
J.t2

A rea irrigated, Crop value,
Year aeres dollars
]968 7,8]3 .165,.184
1969 7,96] .158,919
1970 8,009 -161,]7]
197] 8,079 .190,229
1972 8,107 526,367
1973 8,239 585,870
197.1 8,197 .10.1,3]8
]975 8,1.14 .177,]30
1976 8,277 809,982
]977 1.1,864 1]85,2]5
]978 8,638 605,-108
1979 ] 1,247 858,025
]980 11,678 1.067,800
]98] 11,683 1,2.18,170

IColorado River runoff was the lowest in 61 years of rel'ord and,
in most areas of Colorado, precipitation for the year was
considerably helow a\'erage,

Facilities in Operation

Storage dams. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . , . . . . , . . . .
Diversion dams. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Canals.................,.............. .
Laterals ................................
Drains......................,......... .

Climatic Conditions

Annual precipitation ...............,.....
Temperature:

wlaximum .......................,....,.
wlinimum ..............................
wlean ..................................
Growing season. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Elevation of irrigable area. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

ENGINEERING DATA

Water Supply

WEST M,ncos Rln:1l

Drainage area at gaging station 4 mi down-
stream from diversion dam . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Annual discharge:
Maximum 119411 ................... . . . ..

97 mi
'HI mi
2 mi
1.,.9 in
% OF
-26 OF
46 OF
12:~ days
(,400-7700.0 ft

42 mi2

.,6.:~OO acre-ft

Mancos Project

Minimum 11lJ:l11 . . .. . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Average ................................

Storage Facilities

JACKSON GULCH DAM

Type: Zoned eartMiII
Location: Offstream in Jackson Gulch about
:> mi north of Mancos.
