Tauer
Mayor, City of Aurora
1470 South Havana Street, Eighth Floor
Aurora, CO 80012

102-I-C

Dear Mayor Tauer:

This responds to a request that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) revise the effective
Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) report for your community in
accordance with Part 65 of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) regulations. In a letter dated
May 13,2002, P.E., JR Engineering, requested that FEMA revise the FIRM to
show the effects of grading in the floodway fringe along the left (west) overbank of Cherry Creek from
just upstream to approximately 900 feet upstream of East Arapahoe Road.

All data required to complete our review of this request were submitted with letters from f

We have completed our review of the submitted data and the flood data shown on the effective FIRM
and in the effective FIS report. We have revised the FIRM and FIS report to modify the elevations and
floodplain boundary delineations ofthe flood having a I-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in
any given year (base flood) along Cherry Creek. As a result of the modifications, the Base Flood
Elevation (BFE) increased at Cross Section L, as shown on FIRM Panel 0480 E and in the Floodway
Data Table. However, in the FIS report, because the increase in BFE was too small to be shown on the
Flood Profile, only the Floodway Data Table for Cherry Creek was revised to reflect this increase. Also
as a result of the modifications, the width of the Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA), the area that would
be inundated by the base flood, for Cherry Creek increased in some areas and decreased in other areas
from just upstream to approximately 900 feet upstream of East Arapahoe Road. The modifications are
shown on the enclosed annotated copy of FIRM Panel 0480 E and affected portions ofthe Floodway
Data Table. This Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) hereby revises the above-referenced panel ofthe
effective FIRM dated August 16, 1995, and the affected portions of the FIS report dated September 7,
1998.

Because this revision request also affects the unincorporated areas of Arapahoe County, a sepmate
LOMR for that community was issued on the same date as this LOMR.

The modifications are effective as of the date shown above. The map panel listed above and as modified
by this letter will be used for all flood insurance policies and renewals issued for your community.
