Federal Emergency Management Agency
Washington, D.C. 20472

OCT 1 3 1998

LETTER OF MAP AMENDMENT
218-70-NS

IN REPLY REFER TO CASE NO. 99-08-006A

Community: La Plata County, Colorado
Community No.: 080097
Map Panel Affected: 0278 C
Map Effective Date: March 16, 1995

We reviewed a request dated September 23, 1998, for a Letter of Map Amendment. All required information for this
request was received on October 7, 1998. Using the information submitted and the effective National Flood Insurance
Program (NFIP) map, we determined the structure on the property described below is in a Special Flood Hazard Area
(SFHA), the area that would be inundated by the flood having a I-percent chance of being equaled or exceeded in any
given year (base flood). The structure, as shown on the effective NFIP map, remains in the SFHA designated
Zone A4.

Property Description: A portion of Section 31, Township 37 North, Range 8 West, New Mexico Principal
Meridian, Assessor's Parcel No. 5373-313-00-015, La Plata County, Colorado

Street Address: 10128 County Road 250

Flooding Source: Animas River

The lowest adjacent grade to a structure (the lowest ground touching the structure) must be at or above the base flood
elevation (BFE) for the structure to be outside the SFHA. Because the submission did not include the exact location
of the structure and the submitted elevation certificate did not include the elevation of the lowest adjacent grade to the
structure, the structure cannot be determined to be above the BFE. The elevation of the lowest average adjacent
grade, 6,648.2 feet, is lower than the BFE, which ranges from 6,648.7 feet at the south property line to 6,651.8 feet
at the north property line. These elevations are referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. This
determination is based on the flood data presently available.

The enclosed document provides additional information about your options for obtaining a Letter of Map Amendment.
If you have any questions about this letter, please contact Ms. Sally P. Magee of our staff in Washington, DC, either
by telephone at (202) 646-8242 or by facsimile at (202) 646-4596.

Sincerely,

'\~~. ~.~

Matthew B.
