Similar data, including soils and ground-water data, will need to be obtained for
the selected altemate during preliminary engineering.

Geology:
Bedrock is present at the alternate raw water storage sites evaluated. It was assumed that
bedrock may be approximately 10' below the surface at the two Crow Lane reservoir sites and
as described by seismic date presented by the District for the Crescent Lake/Powelson
Reservoir site. At the Maure Hollow site there are significant rock outcrops; it is expected that
bedrock will be much shallower at this location. It appears that the majority of the rock at all
sites is granitic in nature.

Air Quality:
According to the Air Pollution Control Division of CDPHE, all of the altemate sites are located in
a geographic area considered to be in attainment with federal and state air quality standards.
An Air Pollution Emission Notice or construction permit may be required during construction of
the alternates considered in this report.

Historical Sites:
There are no identified sites located in the project area and no surveys have been conducted
within the District. A professional survey should be conducted for the selected altemate to
identify any cultural resources which are eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. It is expected that such a survey will not preClude any of the alternate sites considered
by this Planning Document. Based on input from an early resident of Pinewood Springs, there
are no historical sites designated within the District, or indications that such exist. Some Indian
artifacts have been found randomly located throughout the District and some remnants of a long
abandoned toll road presumably leading from Lyons to Estes Park have been found. However,
none of these had sufficient historical significance to have prevented the entire area from being
platted as a duly recorded subdivision

Fish and Wildlife:
A list of threatened and endangered species which may potentially use the project area is
included in Appendix B. A knowledgeable consultant should be contracted to conduct habitat
assessments, trapping studies, or provide recommendations for complying with the Endangered
Species Act for the preferred alternate as part of preliminary engineering.

3
