rd
the IBCC members, with comments expected back by July 23 . IBCC members will be
welcome and encouraged to solicit input from other Roundtable members.

Public Education, Participation, and Outreach Working Group Report

Rita Crumpton reported that the Working Group members h ave had a couple of meetings since
the last IBCC meeting. The y continue to work with Susan L es ovsky at CWCB and a Grand
Junction graphics firm to complete the website, which will be the prim ary tool for public
ed ucation and outreach. The w ebsite is nearing design completion, there will be space for each
Roundtable to tell it’s story and share information with members. The f ramework for each
R oundtable’s corner will be the sam e in order to p reserve the flow, and the personalities of the
R oundtables will emerge as they contribute both pictures and text to their section . Eric Hecox
and his staff are pr eparing basic content for each basin, which the Roundtable can then
customize. The Working G roup asked each R oundtable to provide the name and contact details
for one member who will agree to serve as an Education Liaison . One of the liaison’s jobs will
b e to get names and pictures from R oundtables up on the website.

Rita asked Roundtables to send the Education Liaison information, and any pictures for the
st
website, to Viola Bralish in the Office of Interbasin Compact Negotiation by August 1 . Not all
pictures will be used by the website designers, but they would like to have as many as possi ble
so that the best can be selected for the site. The Education Liaison will also serve as a point of
contact for getting written information on the website approved by the Roundtables.

One of the Working Group’s tasks is to assist the R oundtables i n educating their members,
including on basic water law. To do this, they would like to work with Colorado Foundation for
Water E ducation and produce a “Basic Water Law 101” video featuring Justice Greg Hobbs .
The video would be available to Roundtables and distributed widely . Rita will talk to the
Foundation at their next Board meeting about this potential project.

Ray Wright asked if the committee would consider financially support ing the capture of some of
the regional water events on video or in wr iting, and making those available to all . Wayne
Vandershuere noted that a “cliff notes” version of Tom Sheck’s book on Basic Hydrology might
go hand in hand with a DVD of Justice Hobbs.

th
Report on June 18 Four Roundtable C aucus

John Porter kicked off a report on the previous day’s Four Roundtable caucus, saying that the
fact that the Roundtables are talking is a big accomplishment. He said his hope is that out of all
that talk things can be accomplished. John shared a strong feeling that within his basin, the
R oundtable is productive and helpful. Southwest has 10 or 11 unique basins that don’t normally
talk to each other, and Roundtable provides a helpful forum for dialogue . John stated that t he
IBCC part of it is probably the most challenging for his basin, and expressed hope that at some
point the IBCC can help the state with their statewide mission, coming from the ground up. He
expressed appreciation for the river district’s work in organizing the meeting, and support for
continuing to get toge ther once a year. Bill Trampe followed by mentioning that is was hard to
11
