Projects Description and Alternatives

Project One:

BOEDECKER LEAK

The purpose of this project is to reduce the water loss in this approximately 6oo-foot section of ditch.
Repairing these leaks will provide the South Side Ditch users an increased water supply.

Two alternatives were considered:

1. Continue to run the system ignoring the water loss in this section.
2. Line the ditch to reduce this loss of water.

Alternative number one: The South Side Ditch Company is loosing an estimated 3 cfs to 5 cfs in this 600
foot section of ditch.

Alternative number two: Line the ditch to reduce the leaks and seep in this section of ditch. The project
would involve lining the ditch on the bottom and sides with a 24" clay lining. Polyacrylamide (PAM), a
canal sealing product, will be applied during clay lining operations on approximately 6" to 10" lifts.

Alternative number two: Feasibility Study on Project One includes lining a section of ditch that is
approximately 620 feet in length with approximately 900 cubic yards of clay soils.

Scope of work includes removing the vegetation on the existing ditch banks where the new clay
embankment material will be placed. Excavate the existing soil materials on the bottom and the side slopes
of the ditch to allow for the placement of 24 inches of clay. Loading-hauling and placing of the clay
material at the depth of 24 inches. Provide grade control for the invert of the reconstructed ditch section.
Cleanup, which includes reshaping of the exiting ditch road to allow for vehicle traffic and adequate
freeboard as, required.

The existing vegetation that is removed shall be placed on the downhill toe of the ditch roadway
embankment and the excess soil material that is excavated shall be placed on the downhill slope and on the
crest of the ditch roadway where additional freeboard is required. Feasibility Study is based on obtaining
acceptable clay materials from the South Side Reservoir at no cost. Estimate includes loading transporting
and placement of borrow materials. Clay materials shall be tested prior to use to assure acceptable
parameters for use as a liner material.

The South Side Ditch Company has developed the preliminary cost estimate for this project. The cost
breakdown is summarized in Table l.

Table l.
