<br />Feasibility Study <br />South Side Ditch Company <br />Ditch Rehabilitation Projects <br /> <br />Introduction (Need for the Projects) <br /> <br />The South Side Ditch Company, located in Larimer County, Colorado operates the South Side Ditch for the <br />benefit of the shareholders by providing direct flow, reservoir exchange and supplemental CBT irrigation <br />water. The ditch diverts from the Big Thompson River and delivers to the service area Two locations on <br />the ditch require lining and two hydraulic check structures are in the need of replacement. In addition to <br />these high profile projects the ditch is in need of rehabilitation in a number of locations because of lack of <br />maintenance funds in past years. <br /> <br />Project Sponsor <br /> <br />The South Side Ditch Company is a mutual ditch company and a non-profit corporation. There are 90 <br />shareholders with 265 shares. The South Side Ditch has the power to set annual assessments to be paid by <br />the shareholders, the power to cut off water deliveries to shareholders that fail to pay their assessments, and <br />the power to offer stock for sale to pay back assessments. The South Side Ditch Company Articles of <br />Incorporation, by-laws and Resolutions are included in Appendix A <br /> <br />Project Service Area and Facilities <br /> <br />The South Side Ditch Company provides irrigation water to an 800 acre service area in Larimer County. <br />The historic diversion point is located at the Northwest comer of Section 12, Township 5, Range 70, West <br />of the 6 p.m., bears North eleven degrees and forty-one minutes, West 1,757110 feet, and the general <br />course of the canal from said point is South East (See map, Appendix B) The ditch is 11 miles long and its <br />head gate is located on the Big Thompson River four miles west of Loveland Irrigated acreage within the <br />service area is used to grow alfalfa and grass hay, as well as serving many small acreages and subdivisions. <br /> <br />Water Rights <br /> <br />The source of water for the South Side Ditch is: 1.39 cfs direct flow out of the Big Thompson River, <br />appropriation date 4-1-1863, 1.52 cfs direct flow out of the Big Thompson River, appropriation date 5-1- <br />1864,2.68 cfs direct flow out of the Big Thompson River, appropriation date 3-1-1867, 0.4 cfs direct flow <br />out of the Big Thompson River appropriation date 5-1-1872 and 50.3 cfs direct flow out of the Big <br />Thompson River, appropriation date 11-7-1880. <br /> <br />Page 6 <br /> <br />South Side Ditch Company <br />Feasibility Study <br />2003 <br />
