Project Two:

SYLVAN DALE LEAK

The purpose of this project is to reduce the water loss in this approximately 250" section of ditch. The
ditch is perched on the side of an unstable bluff.

Three alternatives were considered:

1. Continue to run the system ignoring the water loss in this section.
2. Line the ditch with clay to reduce the leaks and seep in this section of ditch. The project would
involve lining the ditch on the bottom and sides with 24" clay lining. Poyacrylamide (PAM) a canal
sealing product will be applied during clay lining operations on approximately 6" to 10" lifts.
3. Install pipe to reduce water loss and prevent a slide from effecting the flow of water in the ditch. This
will also reduce maintenance costs.

Alternative number three: Feasibility Study for the installation of approximately 225 feet of 60-inch ADS
culvert pipe. Pipe shall extend from the existing tunnel upstream where it will terminate at the existing 3-
sided concrete ditch section.

Scope of work includes removing the existing vegetation as required allowing for the installation of the
new 60-inch culvert pipe. Purchasing and installing the new 60-inch ADS pipe including back filling
utilizing the existing onsite soils. Shaping the transitions section on both ends of the culvert pipe to match
the existing ditch banks. The new culvert pipe is to be placed as close to the uphill side ditch bank as
practical.

The South Side Ditch Company has developed the preliminary cost estimates for this project. The cost
breakdown is summarized in Table 2.

Table 2.
