Friends,
The Interbasin Compact process is off to a great start. I have received a lot of encouragement
and advice on the idea of working together to resolve Colorado’s water challenges.
I believe that the dialogue on water in our state has already change d. We will continue this
positive progress as we begin to build the roundtables and the statewide Interbasin Compact
Committee outlined in HB 1177.
I have already advised counties, municipalities, conservation districts and conservancy districts to
begin making appointments to the roundtables. The timeframe is short, but necessary given the
provisions of HB 1177.
The first organizational meetings for the roundtables will begin soon, and will be done within a
month or so. Additional roundtable members wil l continue to be added throughout the
organizational phase. Our ongoing goal is to be broadly inclusive.
The process may be a bit cumbersome at first, but I am certain that over time, the roundtables will
provide the necessary forum for us to discuss and r esolve water issues. The number of people
involved will allow us unique insight, and will provide the expertise necessary to make sound
decisions based in science and data.
This Web site will be utilized by me and by the members of the roundtables to make interested
citizens aware of our progress, and to provide information necessary for the public to be
involved. We will do our best to ensure that information is made available in a timely manner.
Many have asked what I see as the result of this process. My answer is simple: I do not know
where this process might take us, but I am absolutely certain that our work today will benefit
Colorado for generations to come.
Colorado appreciates your efforts to help make this happen.
Sincerely,
Russell George
