Water will be obtained through the installation of 7 shallow <br />alluvial wells immediately north of the Arkansas River, and then pumped <br />approximately 5.8 miles through a 12-inch transmission line to Brush Hollow Reservoir. <br />As part of the project, Brush Hollow Reservoir will be enlarged by raising the dam four <br />feet. Water rights purchases occurred in 2005. Water court application was filed in <br />2006, with a late 2008 court date anticipated. Reservoir enlargement is scheduled late <br />2007 and early 2008. Pump and pipeline construction is scheduled to occur in 2008 and <br />2009, with total project completion anticipated in 2010. <br /> <br />10. Greeley Irrigation Company - Greeley No.3 Canal Rehabilitation <br /> <br />Authorization: Severance Tax Fund <br />Water Source: South Platte <br />Terms of Loan: $2,233,867@2.85% for 30 yrs. <br /> <br />County: Weld <br />Project Yield: 18,000 acre-feet <br />Project Type: Canal Rehabilitation <br /> <br />The Greeley Irrigation Company (GIC) provides irrigation water to a service area of <br />2,367 acres in Weld County, generally within the City of Greeley and east of the City. <br />GIC operates the Greeley Canal No.3, constructed in 1870 by the Union Colony. About <br />1,100 acres of the 3,500 original irrigated acres have been subject to dry-up, and water <br />converted to augmentation use. Present canal usage is roughly 1/3 City of Greeley, 1/3 <br />agricultural irrigation, and 1/3 augmentation. GIC facilities consist of a river diversion <br />structure, approximately 13 miles of earthen canal, check structures, delivery headgates, <br />spill structures, trash screens, and other minor structures. A portion of these facilities <br />are in need of repair, upgrades, or replacement. The GIC Board is undertaking a <br />number of phased improvements to the canal including: 1) repairs to, and partial <br />replacement of, the river diversion; 2) piping or lining of portions of the canal; 3) <br />consideration of canal automation using supervisory control and data acquisition <br />(SCADA) equipment; 4) tree removal and tree pruning; 5) canal realignment, reshaping, <br />and straightening; and 6) removal or repair of selected headgates and installation of new <br />headgates. Work is anticipated to commence in the fall of 2007 and be completed by the <br />fall of 2008. <br /> <br />11.
