The Colorado Rivl.... Water COnSl"Tvalion District is locatc.xl in Glenwood Springs and is comprised
oCall or part of 15 counties that arc in the northcm half of the Colorado River drainage hasin. The District
consc:rvcs, uses, safeguards. and develops waler resources oethe Colorado River and its tributaries to which
the Stale is l."Otitlcd to under the Colorado RiveT Compact. This project was a collaborative errort between
the River District and the Upper Colorado Recovery Prob,'fam to enlarge Elkhcad Reservoir by raising the
existing dam 24-fcct. for the purpose of obtaining an additional 12.000 acre-feci of storage 10 support
endangered lish species do....nstream (5,000 acre-feet) and for municipal. industrial, and agricultural use
(7.000 acre~feet). The project also included construction of a new labyrinth spillway. outlet tower,
l.."t1\';ronmental mitigation areas. and a State Ilark campground site.
