Summary of Select Preliminary Conclusions
and Observations ( con’t .)
• The recent drought exposed the vulnerability of many
providers systems
• Water providers have identified shortfalls in existing
system reliability and meeting future demands
• Coupled with potential impacts of climate variability and
the facts that demands will continue past 2030, it is clear
that both water conservation and structural water
projects will be needed to meet future M&I demands
• Storage will be needed to carry over conserved water for
base demand and drought
41
Summary of Select Preliminary Conclusions
and Observations ( con’t .)
• There is significant risk to water providers in delaying the
implementation of identified projects and processes and
other water supply development. Concern over scarcity
of supply, cost escalation of water supply development,
and increasing difficulty in permitting projects suggest
that delays in implementation may result in failure of a
project.
• Future opportunities and communication between water
supply planning and local planning entities should be
encouraged.
• The CWCB, in cooperation with several entities, should
develop and implement requirements for standardized
annual M&I water use data reporting to facilitate the
collection of water use data and to track the
implementation and effectiveness of water conservation
measures.
42
21
