Box 127 <br />Wellington, Colorado 80549 <br />Town Hall (970) 568-3381 <br />FAX (970) 568-9354 <br /> <br />October 31, 2000 <br /> <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 721 <br />Denver, CO 80203 <br /> <br />RE: Construction Fund Grant Application <br /> <br />Dear Sirs: <br /> <br />I appreciate the opportunity to apply for a $5,000 grant to complete the Feasibility <br />Study for the Coal Creek Floodplain Project for the preferred alternative. <br /> <br />A stated policy in the Town of Wellington Comprehensive Master Plan is: <br /> <br />"To reduce potential damage of property throughout Wellington, the Town <br />shall pursue in consultation with FEMA, the development of diversion <br />techniques, including a levy or catch basin that could substantially reduce <br />risks associated with the 100 year Coal Creek Flood Plain," <br /> <br />The Pre-Disaster Flood Hazard Mitigation Plan was completed earlier this year, <br />with the assistance of a $12,000 grant from CWCB, to the point of identifying a <br />preferred alternative for removing Wellington out of the Coal Creek flood plain. <br />This request for a $5,000 grant will be to compete the feasibility study with <br />analysis of the selected project including surveying and hydraulic analysis. The <br />intent is to proceed with acquisition of funding for construction of the project in <br />2001, with final design and construction beginning as soon as funding is <br />obtained. <br /> <br />On behalf of the Town of Wellington, I thank you for your consideration of this <br />grant application. <br /> <br />Sincerely, <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />Town Administrator/Clerk <br />
