SUMMARY OF PROPOSED PROJECT
WELD COUNTY TRI-AREA SANITATION DISTRICT
STORMW ATER DETENTION FACILITY

Project Sponsor: Weld County Tri-Area Sanitation District

Type of Proiect: Municipal- drainage and flood control

Location: Immediately south of Frederick at the intersection of 8th Street and Main
Street and about 'is mile n~rth of Colorado Highway 52 in Weld County.

Date of Application: October 28, 1998 and January 24,2000

Feasibilitv StudY: Submitted January 2000 by the Sear-Brown Group of Fort Collins
(revised March 2000)

Project Description: The District is proposing a regional detention pond project that will
reduce the peak historic flows in the Tri- Town Drainageway and thereby reduce the
extent of flooding in the communities of Evanston, Firestone and Frederick. The pond
will be located on 60 acres of agricultural land immediately south of Frederick as shown
on the attached site map. It will have the capacity to store 146 acre-feet during the 100-
year storm event. Maximum inflow to the pond during the 1 DO-year storm event will be
about 2,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) and the pond will be designed for a maximum
release rate of 567 cfs thus providing significant attenuation of the peak discharge. The
pond is designed to drain in about 40 hours and the project site will be used for open
space and recreational purposes when the pond is empty. The pond will also serve to
reduce the volume of pollution from storm water runoffby providing detention and
settling of runoff.

Estimated Project Cost: $2,065,478

Fundin2 Requested: $1,500,000
