The reservoir is located about 13, <br />miles northeast of Trinidad in Las Animas County. Please see the attached map. <br />' , <br /> <br />The Company's engineering consultant, URS Greiner Woodward-Clyde, submitted a draft <br />,feasibility study on May 20th. Staff is still in the process of reviewing the feasibility study and <br />discussing the technical and fmancial aspects of the project with the Company's representatives <br />and consultants in order to be able to make a fmal det~rmination of feasibility. ' <br /> <br />Backe:round <br /> <br />Model Reservoir is a regulating reservoir used to store water' for the irrigation of about 6,000 <br />acres of cropland below the dam. The water is used primarily by Oxley Farms. Water supplies <br />originate from local runoff and from purgatoire River water, which is stored in Trinidad <br />Reservoir. Reservoir capacity below the invert of the existing spillway is estimated at between <br />4,500 and 6,000 acre-feet. <br /> <br />During the storm event, which occurred earlier this month, a very large amount of runoff <br />originating in the local drainage basin flowed into Model Reservoir and overtopped the outlet <br />conduit on May 2nd. (An excavation for field analyses above the outlet conduit resulted in a <br />discharge elevation lower than the spillway crest.)
