Everyone contacted to date has agreed there are problems related to the
quantity and quality of ground water in the mountainous portion of Jefferson County.

We will begin our collaborative endeavor with an 8:30 a.m. sign-in, and, bolstered with coffee and pastries, begin the work
of reviewing the preliminary study proposal, enclosed. United States Geological Survey (USGS) has drafted this proposal as
a starting point for our discussions. Please bring with you the enclosed response sheets so we can immediately link your web
site with Jefferson County's newly created "water" web location.

In preparation, you may want to write down any resources, experts, knowledge, funding, etc., that your organization can
share as a collaborator with your peers to support the water work ahead. The issue is complex and this Board understands
that a water study will require resources and dedication. And that there may have to be acceptance of short-term measures
until the study is completed and longer-term actions identified.

V Lunch will be provided, so we need your "RSVP" no later than October 7, 1997. Please call Phyllis at 271-8765. It is a small
recompense for the skills and experience you will be contributing. We hope that the afternoon session will end with study
alternatives that can be discussed by the Board and by concerned county citizens.

We anticipate an exciting session on October 9 and look forward to meeting you.

Sincerely,

PBH:JB:ps

Enclosures

c: Ron Holliday, County Administrator
James Ellis, Director of Land Planning & Infrastructure
Richard Turner, Director of Planning and Zoning
Janet Bell, Acting Comprehensive Planning Coordinator

100 Jefferson County Parkway, Golden, Colorado 80419
(303) 271-6511
