<br />. .. <br /> <br />Project Overview and Accomplishments <br />Jefferson County Mountain Ground Water Resource Study <br /> <br />Project Origin and History <br />June of 1997 ~ Under the leadership of Jefferson County Commissioner Pat Holloway, <br />the Board of County Commissioners authorized staff to begin the <br />Mountain Ground Water Resource Study. This three-year study attempts <br />to better understand the scientific nature of the mountain ground water and <br />potentially provide the county with a credible basis for judging land <br />development proposals in the mountains. <br /> <br />August 28, 1997- <br /> <br />The north Evergreen neighborhood umbrella association, ENABLE, <br />hosted a community forum on the issue of water. About sixty citizens <br />turned out. County Commissioner Pat Holloway and Janet Bell of the <br />Jefferson County Planning and Zoning Department joined them. <br /> <br />October 9, 1997 - <br /> <br />Jeffco hosts "water guru" meeting. Twenty attendees representing public <br />and private water resources and technical interests come together to form <br />the pre-cursor to the project .advisory/steering committee. <br /> <br />Project Overview <br />Year One- <br />· The U.S. Geological Survey Water Resources Division takes a technical lead on the <br />study. <br />· Advisory/Steering Committee formed, consisting of: <br />U.S. Geological Survey, <br />U.S. Environmental Projection Agency, <br />Colorado Division of Water Resources, <br />State Departments of Health and Natural Resources, <br />Colorado School of Mines, <br />Colorado Water Conservation Board, <br />Colorado Geological Survey, <br />Denver Regional Council of Governments, <br />Private well contractors, water quality labs, hydrologists, geologists, water <br />attorney, <br />County Planning Commission, <br />County Planning, Health and Environment and Geographic Information Systems <br />(GIS) staff. <br /> <br />· Turkey Creek Drainage Basin chosen as a pilot study location. <br />· Mathematical model developed and test protocol finalized. <br />
