Water is used primarily used for livestock pasture
(cattle ranching) and hay production. The PRBDC headgate is located easf ofthe Town of Bayfield,
above BeaverCreek. The Company maintains approximately 10.5 miles of unl.ined ditch, with
approximately 60-70 headgates. From the headgate, the ditch flows through a conCrete flume and
into the Beaver Creek siphon, a 32-inch diameter steel pipe siphon, 2300 feet in length, dropping an
estimated 100 feet in elevation, as it runs under Beaver Creek. The current siphon was builtin
1955-1957, with a design life of 30 years, and is in deteriorated condition. The steel has oxidized
to the point where the pipe walls have thinned in many places beyond repair. Also, large quantities
of iron oxide material scalings, have accumulated at the siphon outlet. With ~vid.ence of further .
degeneration, the siphon is now subjectto imminent failure, which would entirely close the ditch.
The original pipe and ditch are designed to carry 37 cfs, but currently capacity is limited to 3a cfs.
The existing siphon would be rePlaced by a new 30-inch pVC pipe, designed to.,~rry 37 cfs.

Location Map
