<br />FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY <br />TOWN OF SILT, COLORADO (GARFIELD COUNTY) <br /> <br />1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />1.1 Purpose of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study (FIS) revises and updates a previous Flood Insurance Rate Map <br />(FIRM) for the Town of Silt, Garfield County, Colorado. This information will be used by <br />the Town of Silt to update existing floodplain regulations as part of the Regular Phase of the <br />National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The information will also be used by local and <br />regional planners to further promote sound land use and floodplain development. <br /> <br />In some States or communities, floodplain management criteria or regulations may exist that <br />are more restrictive or comprehensive than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, <br />the more restrictive criteria take precedence, and the State (or other jurisdictional agency) will <br />be able to explain them. <br /> <br />1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments <br /> <br />The sources of authority for this FIS report are the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and <br />the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973. <br /> <br />A previous FIRM for the Town of Silt was published on April 1 , 1987. An FIS report was <br />not prepared at that time. <br /> <br />The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for this study were performed by the u.s. Army Corps <br />of Engineers (USACE), Sacramento District, and the Colorado Water Conservation Board <br />(CWCB). Additional data were provided by consultants to the Town of Silt, <br />Schmueser Gordon Meyer, Inc. This work was completed in October 2004. <br /> <br />1.3 Coordination <br /> <br />On January 31,2005, FEMA notified the Town of Silt that a Physical Map Revision was <br />being prepared for the community using information prepared by Schmueser Gordon Meyer, <br />Inc. <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDIED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This FIS report covers the incorporated areas of the Town of Silt, Garfield County, Colorado. <br /> <br />The Colorado River was studied by detailed methods from just upstream of the eastbound <br />Interstate 70 (1-70) bridge at the western corporate limits to County Road 33 at the <br />eastern corporate limits. <br /> <br />1 <br />
