The
reservoir is located in Garfield County, 6 miles west of Glenwood Springs and is filled through
ditch diversions from South Canyon, Three Mile, and Garfield Creeks, tributaries to the Colorado
River. The reservoir was constructed in 1958 and is a Class 3 structure with a maximum dam
height of 43 feet impounding a reservoir of 206 ac-ft. Bill Porter has conditional water rights to
store an additional 1000 acre.feet in the Barton Porter Reservoir. He wants to enlarge the
resenroir so that it will store approximately 1,100 acre-feet to provide water for his
farming/ranching operation during drought periods. The project started in summer 2002 and is
currently under construction with estimated completion in winter 200212003. Golder and
Associates has completed the feasibility study. Proposed funding for the project consists of
$1,000,000 from Bill porter, and a $1,000,000 Small Project Loan from the CWCB.

Location Map

5
