FLOOD INSURANCE STUDY CITY OF DELTA, DELTA COUNTY, COLORADO 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Purpose of Study This Flood Insurance Study revises and updates a previous Flood Insurance Study/Flood Insurance Rate Map for the City of Delta, Delta County, Colorado. This information will be used by the City of Delta to update existing floodplain regulations as part of the Regular Phase of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The information will also be used by local and regional planners to further promote sound land use and floodplain development. In some ,states or communities, floodplain management criteria or regulations" may exist that are more restrictive or comprehensive than the minimum Federal requirements. In such cases, the more restrictive criteria take precedence and the State (or other jurisdictional agency) will be able to explain them. 1.2 Authority and Acknowledgments The s~urces of authori ty for this Flood Insurance Study are the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 and the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973. The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for the original study were performed by MSM Consultants, Inc., for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) , under Contract No. H-4710. This work, which was completed in February 1982, covered all significant flooding sou~ces affecting the City of Delta. The hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for the Gunnison Ri ver were performed for FEMA by the u.s. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramenta District, under Interagency Agreement EMW-88-E-2768. This restudy was completed in May 1989. 1.3 Coordination An initial coordination meeting was held in the City of Delta on March 23, 1978. This meeting, attended by representatives of the City of Delta, FEMA, and the study contractor, was held to discuss the, nature and purpose of the original study and the scope and limits of work. On January 25, 1979, an intermediate coordination meeting was held to discuss the progress of the study and the limits of work.
