<br />An initial coordination meeting for the Town of Superior was held <br />on April 21, 1976, and attended by a representative of the F~A; the <br />Mayor of Superior; and representatives of the Boulder County <br />Planning and Public Works Department, the ewes, and Howard, <br />Needles, Tammen <<Bergendorff. The purpose was to discuss areas to <br />be studied and methods to be used. On February 18, 1977, <br />representatives of the Federal Insurance Admdnistration and Howard, <br />Needles, Tammen & Bergendorff met in Superior to review the study <br />limits. <br /> <br />The ses, the eweB, the Boulder County Courthouse, the USGS, and the <br />State Historical Society were contacted for available data. <br /> <br />The results of this study were reviewed at a final community <br />coordination meeting held on July 18, 1978. Attending the meeting <br />were representatives of the PIA, the study contractor, Boulder <br />County planning and Public Works Department, the eweB, and the <br />town. This study incorporates all appropriate comments, and all <br />problems have been resolved. <br /> <br />2.0 AREA STUDiED <br /> <br />2.1 Scope of Study <br /> <br />This Flood Insurance Study covers the geographic area of Boulder <br />County, including the incorporated Cities of Boulder, Lafayette, <br />Longment, Louisville, the Towns of Jamestown, Lyons, Nederland, <br />Superior, and the unincorporated areas of Boulder County. <br /> <br />The streams studied by detailed methods are presented in Table 1. <br /> <br />The areas studied by detailed methods were selected with priority <br />given to all known flood hazards and areas of projected development <br />or proposed construction through 1993. <br /> <br />The following are streams for which only approximate flood hazards <br />are presented: Gregory Creek, Bluebell Canyon Creek, Viele <br />Channel, Davids Draw, Anderson Ditch, Little Dry Creek, Sunshine <br />Gulch, Kings Gulch, and the upper reaches of Bear Canyon Creek. <br /> <br />Approximate analyses were used to study those areas having a low <br />development potential or minimal flood hazards. The scope and <br />methods of study were proposed to, and agreed upon by, PEMA and <br />Boulder County. <br /> <br />2.2 Community Description <br /> <br />Boulder County is located in north-central Colorado, approximately <br />50 miles south of the Colorado-Wyoming state line. In 1980, the <br />population of Boulder County was 189,925, an increase of 44 percent <br />from a population of 141,889 in 1970 (Reference 13). <br /> <br />6 <br />
