Zone B: Areas between the special flood hazard areas and the limits of the SOO-year flood, including areas of the SOO-year flood plain that are protected from the lOa-year flood by dike, levee, or other water control structure; or, areas sub- ject to certain types of lOa-year shallow flooding where depths are less than 1.0 foot. Zone B is not subdivided. Zone C: Areas of minimal flooding. S.4 Flood Insurance Rate Map Description The Flood Insurance Rate Map for the City of Alamosa is, for insur- ance purposes, the principal result of the Flood Insurance Study. This map (published separately) contains the official delineation of flood insurance zones and base flood elevation lines. Base flood elevation lines show the locations of the expected whole-foot water- surface elevation of the base (lOa-year) flood. This map is developed in accordance with the latest flood insurance map preparation guide- lines published by the Federal Bmergency Management Agency. 6.0 OTHER STUDIES Preliminary work, including aerial photography, land survey, and hydrology, for this study was developed in preparation of a Flood Plain Information Report for Alarnosa County and vicinity. The Flood Plain Information Report was discontinued in favor of a Flood Insurance Study for Alamosa County and this study for the city. The study for the county (Refer- ence 6) is in progress and has not yet been published. The present study is authoritative for purposes of the Flood Insurance Program, and presented information either supersedes or is compatible with all previous studies. 7.0 LOCATION OF DATA Information concerning the pertinent data used in the preparation of this study can be obtained by contacting the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Mitigation Division, Denver Federal Center, Building 710, Box 25267, Denver, Colorado 80225-0267. 15
