3.3 Wetlands

3.3.1 Affected Environment

No wetlands were located within the proposed project area or within any alternatives for the Goodman Point Water
proj ect. This is due to the minimal amounts of precipitation in the area and other hydrologic factors such as limited basin
sizes and soil conditions. (Please see Figure 8 below.) The single emergent freshwater wetland visible on the map below
will not be affected by construction as it is out of the proposed project area.

The Goodman Point area receives 13-16 inches of rainfall per year, generally during the late summer into early fall period
as well as snows in the winter. (NRCS soil survey)

The arid nature of the proposed project area does not support any wetlands. Most wetlands in the agricultural portion of
Montezuma County are charged by irrigation of fields and via the canals and ditches that support the irrigation operations.
Because there is no irrigation water to the proposed project there are no irrigation augmented wetlands on Goodman
Point. This is also supported by web based maps including soil survey maps and a November field survey.

Nearby springs such as Goodman Spring do have wetland tendencies but are not within the proposed project area.
