2.0 Alternatives for the Proposed Action

There are three alternatives for the proposed action.

Alternative I-No Action

The No Action Alternative presents the NEPA required alternative of no action. Under this alternative, the
proposed action, extension of water lines, would not take place. This would continue to require all water for
domestic and fire protection to be hauled from outside the Goodman Point area.

Alternative II-Proposed Action

The Proposed Action (preferred action) includes the connection of a four inch water line to two existing
Montezuma Water Company four inch water lines located on County Road (CR) 17 on the north side of the
proposed project area and on the east side of the proposed project area on County Road P. A storage tank and
lift pump would be constmcted on the southeast corner of County Road P and 17. Under this alternative the
water line would be constmcted within the county right of way or immediately adjacent to the right of way
except for a 100 meter mn behind a home on the northeast corner of County Road P and 17 and a 200 meter mn
through tilled dryland at the northwest corner of County Road P and 17. An additional mn of approximately
400 meters would mn behind a home through tilled dryland on County Road M west of the County Road M
and County Road 16 intersection.

Alternative III-Alternate sites

This alternative ties into existing Montezuma Water Company infrastmcture as stated in Alternative II, the
preferred action. It consists of relocating the mn of approximately 400 meters behind a home through tilled
dryland north of County Road M and west of County Road 16 intersection to the County Road M right of way
through rocky terrain. In addition a tank and pump alternative site is located at the terminus of County Road
M where it meets private property.

Alternatives II and III have the same Environmental Consequences on resources and are addressed as one
action in the Affected Environment portion of the Environmental Review Document.

3
