Part VII - Proposed Project (Recommended Alternative)

A. Prl~;ect Design

1. Water Supply
Goodman Point Water Association will receive water from the Montezuma Water
Company that supplies water to the mral areas surrounding Cortez in southwest
Colorado. MWC's raw water supply is from Lake McPhee, which is supplied by the
Dolores River. There is no new raw water supply that is required for this project.

Montezuma Water Company owns water rights that are used to provide service to
members in three counties in Southwest Colorado. The water supply is the Dolores River
and the Wells in Lost Canyon. Montezuma Water Company's water treatment plant has
a current capacity of 4 million gallons per day and this past year at maximum day
demands the plant was at 44% of capacity. At maximum day demands MWC used
approximately 3% of their total water rights.

2. Treatment
There are no proposed centralized water treatment facilities located within the Goodman
Point area. Water treatment is provided by the Montezuma Water Company which
operates a water treatment plant in Dolores that serves the mral area of Montezuma
County .

Montezuma Water Company uses the ACTIFLO system in its water treatment process.
Raw water is pumped to the treatment plant where a coagulant is added in a rapid mixing
tank. The water is then injected with a microsand and polyelectrolyte in an injection
tank. This is followed by a flocculation tank where the flocs mature. A lamella settler
separates the floc from the treated water. Sludge generated in the process is collected
from the bottom of the settler and pumped to a hydrocyclone where the microsand is
separated from the sludge for reuse. The treated water flows to a clearwell where it is
disinfected with chlorine gas. The MWC water treatment plant has a capacity of 4 MGD.

A chlorine booster pump for Goodman Point may be required, which will be determined in
the final design stage. Space is provided in the pump station enclosure to accommodate
two 55-gallon dnul1s of sodium hypochlorite and two metering pumps. Costs associated
with the chlorine booster pumps are included in the project costs.

3. Storage
Storage will be provided to the Goodman Point area through one water storage tank with
capacity to store demand for the full build out population of the area. The water storage
tank is not required to have fire flow storage.

Storage requirements are based on domestic demands and state requirements. It is
assumed that the ultimate population served in 2040 will be approximately 125 residents.
The minimum storage recommended by the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment (CDPHE) for a population of 100 is 20,000 gallons, and for 200 is 40,000

Goodman Point Water Association - Preliminaty Engineering RepOli

18
