Follow the river north to the
headgate. This structure was accessed using a dirtbike and hip waders to cross
the river.
Latitude
N37008'12.6"

Longitude
W105057'33.7"

Section
SW1/4 S35

Township
T34N

Range
R9E

Location:

Type:

Manually operated 2' wide steel slide gate.

Good ~ No D Reason Submerged:
Condition: Fair ~ Submerged: IV! High River Flows
Poor D Yes LC:,J

Repair(s) Needed: The structure is in good condition, but river flow is starting to bypass the
diversion dam on the west side. The river bank upstream of the diversion dam needs to be raised
and fortified or the river will eventually go around the diversion dam and it will fail. There is also
heavy debris collecting on the diversion dam that needs to be removed.

Upstream Configuration: There is a "U"-shaped diversion dam that diverts river flow to the
headgate, which sits along the east bank of the river. There is a manually operated 3' wide steel
slide gate return structure adjacent to the headgate.

Comments: The structure looked like fairly recent construction, and the water commissioner said
that it was an NRCS project. This structure diverts water from the north channel of the Conejos
River.

Estimated Range of Cost: Low

F :\Projects \20060507\Documents \Reports \Conejos \1 nventory Forms \Lopez Ditch .doc

OA No. 2-2006-0507
