High River Flow
Poor ~ Yes LC:,J

Repair(s) Needed: The headgate needs to be removed and replaced by a larger structure because
it is not big enough to prevent water from entering the ditch during high river flows.

Upstream Configuration: There is a "U"-shaped boulder diversion dam that diverts flow along the
river to the headgate, which sits along the south bank of the river.

Comments: A construction crew was present at the time of the site visit, and it appeared that they
were going to replace the headgate. They were apparently going to add boulders to increase the
head on the diversion dam as well. They may also be adding a return flow structure. This gate was
previously raised by order because it was getting overtopped by high river flows. The ditch rider
previously had to use tarps to prevent water from overtopping the headgate during high river flows.
The downstream flow measurement device is a 3' wide Parshall flume. The Estimated Range of Cost
for repairing this structure is not applicable because it was already in the process of being replaced at
the time of the site visit.

Estimated Range of Cost: N/A

F:\Projects\20060507\Documents\Reports\Alamosa\lnventory Forms\San Jose Ditch #1.doc

OA No. 2-2006-0507
