Ayres Associates is pleased to present the Flood Hazard Area Delineation
for the Adams County portion of Clear Creek from the confluence with the
South Platte River upstream to Sheridan Boulevard. This report documents
the revisions to the 1 OO-year floodplain and includes the results of the
determinations for a floodway rise of 0.5 ft and 1.0 ft.
Significant changes that have occurred to the stream corridor include the
addition of drop structures, multiple new bridges for 1-270 and 1-76, and
replacement of the Pecos Street bridge. Along the stream corridor land uses
have changed, often involving filling of the floodplain with revisions to the
previous floodplain delineation. The 1-76 embankment significantly altered
the flow regime, splitting the flows upstream of Federal Boulevard to
Sheridan. The resulting impacts to the floodplain are incorporated into this
report.
Upon acceptance of the report by the District and approval by the Colorado
Water Conservation Board this document should assist Adams County in
administration of their floodplain regulations and future land use planning in
order to reduce the potential for damages to life and property.
