The headgate is east of the headgates for the
Teorodo Ditch #1 and the Lobato and Cordoba Ditch.
Latitude Longitude Section Township Range
N37004'05.1" W105056'14.0" SE1/4 S25 T33N R9E
Manually operated 10' steel slide gate, manually operated 5' wide wood slide gates
(2)
Good D No D Reason Submerged:
Fair D Submerged: Yes [gJ High River Flow
Poor [gJ
Repair(s) Needed: There is significant concrete spalling along the entire structure, and the steel
slide gate is leaking. The wood slide gates don't appear to be in use, as there is significant plant
growth in the sediment that has accumulated on their downstream side. The structure does not need
to be completely torn out, but a new headgate needs to be installed that is much smaller.

Upstream Configuration: There is a rock diversion dam that diverts river flow to the headgate,
which sits along the north bank of the river.

Directions:

Location:

Type:

Cond ition:

Comments: The structure diverts water off of the south channel of the San Antonio River. The
Lobato and Cordoba Ditch and the Teodoro Ditch #1 are just upstream of this ditch to the west. The
ditch was not running any water at the time of the site visit. According to the water commissioner,
this structure has only a 15 cfs water right. The structure is much too large for diverting only 15 cfs,
and since it is in such poor condition it could be replaced by a much smaller structure. The existing
structure would not need to be completely torn out as long as it would not hinder the performance of
the new headgate. The owners of this ditch, the Lobato and Cordoba Ditch, and the Teodoro Ditch
#1 could potentially pool their money together and build one good diversion dam that services all
three ditches. The structure ID# is 693.

Estimated Range of Cost: Low

F:\Projects\20060507\Documents\Reports\San Antonio\lnventory Forms\Taos Valley Ditch #3.doc

OA No. 2-2006-0507
