Previous Studies

Flood peaks for the 10-, 50-, 100-, and 500-year events for portions of Henson Creek and
Lake Fork in the vicinity of Lake City were estimated using statistical methods
(WestWater, 1985a). Using these flood peaks, floodplains were delineated under the
direction of CWCB using HEC-2 hydraulic model and presented in Flood Plain
Information Report (WestWater, 1985b).

There are no hydrologic studies for the remainder of the County, whose numerous
floodplains are shown as Zone A on the Hinsdale County FIRM (FEMA, 1987).

Community Response to the CWCB Desi2nation and Approval Process

A letter from the CWCB was transmitted to Hinsdale County regarding the Board's
proposed action for designation and approval of Hinsdale County floodplain information.
The town was receptive to the Board's proposed designation action and sent an official
letter requesting that the CWCB designate and approve the floodplain information
currently available to the community. A copy of the request letter is included in the
Appendix of this report. In addition, the community was contacted during the study
process to obtain data and general information.
