Houses washed from their foundation or filled with
mud and water. Longmont is almost completely cut off from the outside by destruction of roads and bridges and
within the city considerable damage was done by a flood of the St. Vrain river and a tremendous local rain storm
which turned the streets into rivers of rushing water.

The rain storms of last week and the latter part of the week before brought huge damage throughout the northeastern
part of the state and at Pueblo a tremendous flood in the Arkansas and Fountain Rivers overran the business section
and lowlands of the city and drowned a large number of people. Latest reports are 135 known dead and many more
not accounted for. Property loss, it is conservatively stated, will amount to $5,000,000.

Excerpt from the article appearing in
Thursday - June 9, 1921

Storm

"The Boulder County Miner and Farmer"

1921

A day or two before Memorial Day in 1894, a steady rain began which finally reached flood proportions, and the
entire lower portion of the town was washed away. The river rose to the railroad tracks, and a portion of the depot
was inundated. No lives were lost, but many persons had thrilling stories to tell. Large houses and barns were swept
away, as well as all bridges of the region. The road to Longmont was not fully repaired for two months.

FLOOD

From the "Longmont Times-Call"
December 2, 1940
Article by Bertha Ramey

North St. Vrain & St.
Floodplain Update

V rain Creeks

Longmont Flood

Town of Lyons
