water right for the Reini Brothers Ditch. Tliere is also one decreed stream diversion within the
proposed reach. The Dolloff Ditch is decrcled for 5.0 cfs, and it is owned by the Colorado
Division of Wildlife. I

I
For an indication of water availability, BLM recommends utilizing the gage located on Little
I
Muddy Creek, near Parshall, Colorado (US6S Gage 09040000), and calculating a comparison .of
the relative watershed size of the two basin~. The Little Muddy Creek watershed is located .
immediately adjacent and to the west of BeJver Creek, so it has similar elevation, aspect, and
precipitation patterns. In addition, this gag~ is located above all decreed diversions on Little
I
Muddy Creek, so it provides a good indication of raw water availability.
I

Relationship to Management Plans. BLM and CDOW jointly manage this reach of Beaver
Creek, emphasizing water-oriented recreatirln. The CDOW properties have roads, trails, and
I
campsites that allow easy access to the creel,c. Since this reach is right off U.S. Highway 40
between Hot Sulphur Splings and Kremmling, the location receives high visitation by fishermen
who are interested in the brown trout populJtion in the Colorado River and Beaver Creek.
CDOW and BLM believe that an enlargem~~t is justified by the heavy usage and prominent
location of this creek. .

The BLM requests that the Board recognizel that this recommendation is based only upon the
minimum flows necessary to support cold-,,;ater and cool-water fishery values. BLM may wish
to work with the Board and/or through the Golorado water rights system to appropriate flows to
I
optimally protect fish values and to protect 0ther water-dependent values specified in BLM
I
resource management plans.

Data sheets, R2Cross output, fishery survey I information, and photographs of the cross section
are enclosed to support this recommendatiori.. We thank both the Division of Wildlife and the
Water Conservation Board for their cooperation in this effort.
I
I
,
If you have any questions regarding our in stream flow recommendation, please contact Roy
Smith at 303-239-3940. I

Sincerely,

Linda Anania
Deputy State Director
Resources and Fire

4 Enclosures

cc: Peter McFadden, Kremmling FO
Paula Belcher, Kremmling FO
Tom Freques, Glenwood Springs FO

.

.

.
