000457 APPENDIX A WORKSHOP NOTES Colorado Native Aquatic Species Protection Workshop March 15, 1995 On March 15, 1995, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife sponsored a public workshop to initiate a public dialogue about an issue of increasing concern: the apparent decline of many of Colorado's native aquatic wildlife species. More than 100 people spent a very active day listening and sharing information, concerns, ideas, and solutions. For most of the day, participants worked in small groups to discuss the following questions: 1) What are the implications / significance of the data indicating decline in Colorado's native aquatic species? and 2) What are the desired components for the future management of Colorado's aquatic species, land, and water resources? While addressing this second question, the groups also catalogued: . existing resources, tools, information, and partnerships that could be relied upon to support these components of a desired future management approach; . missing resources, tools, information, and partnerships necessary to achieve the components of a desired future management approach; . and possible actions to achieve the desired results. RESULTS OF SMALL GROUP DISCUSSIONS: I. THE IMPLICATIONS / SIGNIFICANCE OF mE DATA ON NATIVE AQUATIC SPECIES Following presentations by Colorado Division of Wildlife biologists describing the extent and some possible causes of decline in the state's native aquatic species, the small groups brainstormed and summarized their views of the implications/significance of the data. Each group's brainstormed summaries are presented in this section. 1
