Evans <br />Director, eweB <br /> <br />September 7, 1999 <br />For Immediate Release <br /> <br />News contact: <br /> <br />Randy Seaholm or Sue Uppendahl <br />(303) 866-3441 <br /> <br />STATE SEEKS INPUT ON WATER MANAGEMENT OPTIONS FOR COLORADO <br /> <br />RIVER ENDANGERED FISH <br /> <br />The Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) will conduct two meetings in September to <br />gather public comments on voluntary options for increasing Colorado River flows between Palisade and <br />Grand Junction during the spring to benefit endangered fish species, <br />Meetings are scheduled for: <br />· Tuesday, Sept. 14, 7 p,m" at the Hotel Colorado, 526 Pine St. in Glenwood Springs; and <br />· Tuesday, Sept. 21, 7 p.m" at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Third Floor Conference <br />Room, 134 Union Blvd. in Lakewood. <br />The public meetings are part of the first phase of the two-phase Coordinated Facilities <br />Operations Water Availability Study, <br />All programs, services and activities of the Department of Natural Resources and the <br />CWCB are operated in compliance with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. Discussion at the <br />meetings will focus on various alternatives for supplying up to an additional 20,000 acre-feet of water to <br />existing spring peak flows in a segment of the river that has been designated as critical habitat between <br />Palisade and Grand Junction, commonly known as the 15-Mile Reach" The alternatives include <br />coordinating the operations of existing reservoirs, irrigation ditches and canals, power plants and other <br />facilities, so that water is delivered to the critical habitat when it the fish need it" <br />
