Aspinall Unit Operations

Dear Interested Party:

Enclosed is a summary of the Junel3, 2002, meeting to coordinate Reclamation's operation of
the Aspinall Unit. Highlights of the operation meeting include: '

-Based on the June 1 forecast, April-July inflow to Blue Mesa is predicted to be 180,000
acre-feet or 25 percent of normal. By comparison, 1977 April-July inflow was 168,000. The
180,000 prediction may be high based on weather patterns since June 1.

-An agreement has been reached between organizations concerning Redland Water and
Power diversions and Redland fish ladder endangered fish flows. This should conserve Blue
Mesa storage. Gunnison Gorge flows are now 560 cfs and may reach the 800 cfs range this
summer.

-An environmental assessment has been released on Morrow Point Dam trash rack
cleaning.

If you have any suggestions on improving the operation meetings or the summaries ofthe
meetings, please let us know. The next operation meeting is scheduled for Tuesday August 20,
at 12:30 at the Elk Creek Visitor Center on Blue Mesa. If you have questions, please call me
at (970) 248-0652.

&~

Dan Crabtree
Water Management Group Chief

Enclosure
Distribution (see attached list)
