Making sure that all inembersof society are educated is critical to sustaining <br />. I <br />water resources Ul our state. I. , <br />Water education at the K-1e level in Colorado, which includes the Project WET <br />program, is a key component iA realizing this goal. By focusing on Project WET, and their <br />newly designed Discover a Watershed and Watershed Management curriculum, CWN will <br />pull together a broad array of chrncula for teachers across the state, and provide assistance <br />in adapting these activities for l~cal needs. <br />The proposed project will fund and support a Water Education Coordinator. <br />lIDs position will provide supp:ort and participate as a leader in water education <br />efforts statewide and serve as representative of Colorado at the national level. lIDs <br />position will further the missiob of the CWCB by providing volunteer management, <br />partnership projects, program Jdministtation, and distributing educator materials and <br />resources. <br />Colorado Watershed Netwi:>rk is the ideal agency for administering this position. <br />CWN through its River Watch ;Program runs the country's largest statewide <br />volunteer water quality monitofing program. The majority of volunteers in this <br />program are K-12 students and teachers from 73 school groups across the state. <br />CWN already works with an e~tensive statewide teacher network and CWN's <br />existing resources, partnerships, and knowledge would best leverage the efforts of <br />the Water Education Coordina~or. CWN has proven its leadership by educating the <br />youth of Colorado in the impoftance of our water resources. By partnering with <br />national Project WET, WILD, IRiver Watch, and other participating agencies, CWN <br />will further the goals of the CWCB by providing comprehensive water education to <br />our future leaders. <br /> <br />2. List of organizations and/or individuals including those hired that will assist in <br />performing the "Projed" and their r~le and contribution. <br /> <br />I. Colorado Watershed Network (CWN): <br />I <br />A. Overview: CWN is the Project Sponsor. 1bis agency will provide administration, <br />supervision and support fot the hired Water Education Program Coordinator <br />position. CWN will manage the project budget. <br /> <br />B. Colorado Water Education Program Coordinator: The individual to fill this <br />position will ,be detenninedlby Colorado Watershed Network upon <br />implementation of the ''Project.'' This position will participate as a leader in <br />water education efforts statbwide and serve as representative of Colorado at the <br />national level. This positio~ will coordinate and support facilitator efforts and <br />activities and provide water! education materials and resources. <br /> <br />C. River Watch: 1bis progr~, which is implemented by CWN, will share it's <br />teacher database with the Coordinator to aid in recruitment of new teachers. <br />When appropriate River W~tch and Project WET will coordinate combined <br />trainings. <br /> <br />D. Volunteer Facilitators: Vplunteer facilitators are the trained and certified by <br />CWN and partners. They pfovide water education to teachers in their local areas.
