The Selected Project

BFWD plans to pursue alternative #3. Features of this alternative
are as follows:

Drill one new well to pump water into recharge ponds. The
well would pump up to a maximum rate of 3500 gpm. This would
produce approximately 1400 acre feet annually from the well
based on 90 days of free river. The only major winter water
right below this proposed well is for Julesburg Reservoir
and even with the reservoir 6~pty the last few years the
majority of the winter has been available for recharge. The
well would both be located within 100 feet of the South
Platte River.

Two new recharge ponds will be constructed at locations to
be filled by the recharge well along with one existing pond
already constructed along the pipeline route.

Piping will be used to convey water from the well to the
proposed recharge ponds. Piping will be 18 inches in
diameter. The piping will be buried.

Four existing wells will be tied into the pipeline to be
used as augmentation wells.

See the map in Appendix B for project features locations.

Water Rights

BFWD have decrees on their 11 wells used for irrigating their
farms. These wells are augmented through the LWU plan for
augmentation. BFWD as individuals also have interest in the
following water rights:
Pawnee Ditch Company - 12.9 shares
South Platte Ditch Company - 21.6 shares
Acre-Rights Prewitt Reservoir - Logan District - 264 acre rights

The proposed recharge well is already being list in the LWU plan
for augmentation.

,easibility Study
Buffalo ,arms
Augmentation Project
August 2004

5
