.'/:--:'"
.'
,

CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
*****************************************

The Board of the Pinewood Springs Water District has directly confronted the
serious problems created by the severe drought which has cUrtailed the flow in
the Little Thompson River, which is the basic water supply for the Pinewood
Springs community.

The Planning Document which was a~thorized by the Bmrrd and prepared by
McLaughlin Water Engineers evaluated a number of alternate solutions to this
problem. The basic approach chosen was that of the construction of a raw water
reservoir and related pumping and piping facilities which could store water
when the River was flowing, for ultimate release to the Pinewood Springs sys-
tem when the River was dry.

.'

Conceptual designs for such reservoir systems were developed for three separ-
ate locations, earlier described in this Report as Crescent Lake /Powelson,
Maure Hollow, and the Crow Lane Reservoirs. Regarding Maure Hollow
which is locat~d on U.S. Forest Service land, the District is not able to consid-
er it as the selected alternate at this time in anticipation of a prolonged and
uncertain permitting effort. From a comparison of the Crescent Lake/Powelson
alternate with the Crow Lane Reservoirs, again on a conceptual basis, it was
apparent that the alternate identified as " Crow Lane # 1 with a 35' Dam"
offered the most cost effective approach.

Accordingly, the Board of the Pinewood Springs Water District has proceeded
with investigating financing possibilities and. seeking related community sup- '
port for that particular option.

.

37
