. 7) Raw Water Storage

As mentioned earlier, the reservoir designated in the Planning Document as .
"Crow Lane #1" with a 35' high dam was the preferred Alternate chosen by
the Board of the Pinewood Springs Water District. It is located in the NE
1/4 of the NE 1/4 of Section 32-Township4N-Range 71W, and between
Highway 36 and Crow Lane, as shown in Exhibit "C", whic~ also indicates
the other locations of the other Alternate reservoir sites 'considered in the
Planning Document.

It will be created by a 35' high dam constructed across a natural swale at
that location, with plans to use native on site material. It will have a storage.
capacity of approximately 51 acre/feet, and will "receive as its primary
source of supply raw water from the Little Thompson River via the trans-
mission system described above. A considerably smaller source will be the
run-off it receives' from a natural drainage basin directly above the site, hav-
ing a surface area of approxiinately 1/2 of a square mile. .

i'..(~::;:"
'- "'\'

Because of its height, it .is considered a "Jurisdictional" dam, andits design
and construction- must be done in accordance with the requirements of the
State Engineer's office. It will include an outlet works, drain, and emer-
gency spillway.' ,

8) Hvdraulic Calculations'

.Raw Water TransmissionSvstem

From a field survey done by District personnel at the site of the water treat-
ment plant, it was estimated that the low water level in the raw water pump
station would be atappro~ately elevation 6400, and the proposed operat-
. ing level of the Crow Lane # 1 reservoir would be at approximately eleva-
tion 6600, resulting in a static lift of200'.

. Using a head loss of 6.6' per 1000 foot of 4" PVC pipe @IOOgpm (C-:-140)
for a length of 6000' results in a total loss of 39.6', or say 50'. (to cover
additional miscellaneous internal station losses), and when added to the
static lift of200'means that a typical pump should be able to deliver:

.

-100 gpm against a Total Dvnamic Head (mID of250'

34
