C:\ WINDOWS\TEMP\Breach I .1PG (local)

Page I of I

Breach: Looking upstream through the breach. A remnant of the slide can be seen on the left.
The head scarp is visible at the crest. This scarp was measured to be about 13 feet vertical in
height. The remnant of the slide extends for about 150' from the breach. The rock at the right is
bedrock, a weakly cemented, course sandstone (i.e. crumbles easily). The scarp in center of
photo is the remnant of an over-consolidated clay, suspected to be native overlying the
sandstone. Note the steep dip of the bedrock formation. A near vertical joint in the sandstone
can be traced form the bottom center of the photo up to the clay remnant. (Gray colored line) The
joint was filled with a course, sandy clay, but no iron staining.

file:C:\ WINDOWS\TEMP\Breach I .1PG

5/5/98
