The requested loan increase is due to cost <br />overruns incurred during construction of the proj ect. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />At the May 2004 board meeting, the Colorado Water Conservation Board approved a loan to <br />Guenzi Farms in the amount of$334,739, from the Severance Tax Trust Fund. The $334,739 loan <br />authorization was for the construction of the Guenzi Augmentation Plan, consisting of2 recharge <br />wells, 5 recharge sites, and 6,700 linear feet of 12 - 21 inch PVC Pipe. <br /> <br />The Guenzi Farm is located in Logan County, approximately 5 miles southwest of the City of <br />Sterling. The Guenzi' s currently irrigate approximately 2,600 acres by a combination of flooding <br />and sprinkling. A maj ority of the irrigation is accomplished by the operation of 31 tributary <br />groundwater wells. These current operating wells generate 1,510 acre-feet of summer-time <br />depletions and 960 acre-feet of wintertime depletions, which are currently augmented by the Logan <br />Well Users. These wells that the Guenzi' s own have what is considered a very junior water right. <br />There are numerous downstream ditches, a reservoir, and the Interstate Compact with Nebraska, <br />which all have senior water rights to the Guenzi' s wells. Construction of the Guenzi Augmentation <br />Plan will cover their annual depletions and eliminate their $45,000 annual payment to the Logan <br />Well Users. <br />
