., a

CWCB CONSTRUCTION LOAN APPLICATION - CONTINUED

I
PART A ITEM 5 I
i
The Town of Palisade ~as five reservoirs in its watershed. We use
two major pipelines tOI transport water to our treatment plant. The
major raw water line:used is the Cottonwood Creek line and the
other is the Rapid cr~ek line. Both are undersized for our needs.

From April through Ju~e of 1994 we have experienced five (5) water
breaks on the Cotton~pod line. This line is at least fifty (50)
old and is constructed of cast iron lead joint pipe, which is eight
(8) inch in some Plac~s and six (6) inch in others. When the Town
experiences a break i this line we loose the best quality water
available to the To n because Kruzen Springs water cannot be
brought down the Rapi~ Creek Line.
I
PART B ITEM 5 !

The Town proposes tol replace the existing Cottonwood Creek raw
water pipeline, appro~imatelY seven miles, with a twelve (12) inch
pipeline of cast ironiductile or C 900 PVC, 200 p.s.i.. The Town
prefers to use the clast iron ductile pipe because of the soil
conditions that existl along the pipeline route.
I
I
The new pipeline willjallow the Town to provide water to the water
treatment plant witho~t the interruption that has been experienced
in the past. It wi,ll also allow the Town to better use its
existing water rights !because of the increased flow capacity of the
larger line. The Tewn also provides water to the Ute Water
Conservancy District, during peak summer usage and when Ute
experiences water brekks in their main raw water line. All of the
water transported doLn the Cottonwood Creek line is used for
domestic use by the re~idents of the Palisade water service area or
the Ute Water customers when the Town provides water to Ute.
,
,

I
The Town will alsol investigate the hydroelectric generation
possibili ties that tlhe upgraded line may make available to the
Town. :
,
I
I
I
I
I
The Town intends tb bid the engineering for the pipeline
replacement project. !
,
,
I
I
I
I
I
,

PART B ITEM 7
