alternative would allow for a complete inspection of the
shale formation once the old structure was removed. With the
' old structure removed, complete stabilization could be
achieved with a new foundation. A concrete floor as
described in alternative 2 would also be needed for the same
reasons as described above. Using a bladder gate would the
best and most modern method for diverting river flows. This
alternative may cause some difficulties in diverting water
into the ditch because of the timing and size of the
project. The cost of this alternative is approximately
$350,000.
The Selected Project
The UPBCC plans to construct alternative #2. Features of this
alternative are as follows:
- Sheet piling and pipe piling will be used under all the
concrete structures for general stabilization and for
protection from undercurrents. Pipe piling will be placed in
an equally spaced pattern and the sheet piling will form the
perimeter of these structures.
- The energy dissipating floor will be monolithic steel
reinforced concrete. This floor will be approximately 15
inches thick.
- The new floor will be connected into the existing floor and
foundation. At the same time concrete will be pumped under
• the existing structure forming new support with the
remaining shale formation.
These features are shown in the preliminary set of plans found in
Appendix A.
Water Rights
There are 100 shareholders in the UPBCC with rights to divert 234
cfs from the South Platte River consisting of a 20 cfs right
 (1868/1869), a 50 cfs right (1882), and a 164 cfs right (1888).
The official name on the decree is the UPPER PLATTE AND BEAVER
CANAL COMPANY with their water being diverted down the UPPER
PLATTE AND BEAVER CANAL.
Feasibility Study
Upper Platte and Beaver
Canal Company Diversion Structure
March 2002

%
